Fisher's Fuel Inc.
Fisher's Fuel is a family business in every sense of the term. In 1968 Bob and Barb were homesteading in the Big Lake area when they saw what looked like a good opportunity and bought a little store at the fork in the Big Lake road. That business has been known for the past 35 years as Fisher's Y, but the family business has grown far beyond that corner store.
In 1969 Bob added heating oil distribution in the area. By 1970 Tesoro had come to Alaska and Fisher's Fuel became the first distributor.
In those early days, the company boasted one truck, which the oldest son drove to school in Wasilla. After school he'd drive to Anchorage to fill the truck and highball it back for dinner. After dinner Bob and Barb would make the deliveries to the customers, having coffee along the way. (Price for home heating was $.239 per gallon). Although the prices have changed substantially over the years, we have encouraged our drivers to maintain the personal contact that the business was established on.
Now, 35 years later, the Fisher's still own Fisher's Y, and are still a Tesoro distributor, but Fisher's Fuel is a long way from an after dinner sideline. Fisher's 15 line trucks and 12 delivery trucks now service 22 stations and over 3000 customers from Healy to Glennallen.
Fisher's Fuel Inc. has grown to over 60 employees at different locations through out the state, however, we still remember the community that has made us what we are today. We are active in recreational and civic functions primarily in the Big Lake area and will continue to recognize those who support us.
